Hyunjung Choi has served as Music Director of The Pacific Choir since 2013, leading the ensemble with a steadfast commitment to artistic excellence and the advancement of choral artistry. Under her direction, the choir has grown into a dynamic and versatile ensemble recognized for distinguished performances of major choral masterworks by Johann Sebastian Bach, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Gabriel Fauré, and Antonio Vivaldi, as well as a wide range of contemporary repertoire.
Ms. Choi studied Church Music at Yonsei University, where she specialized in Choral Conducting and Organ Performance. During her undergraduate years, she toured extensively throughout Japan and the United States as both chorister and accompanist, gaining valuable international performance experience. A dedicated concert organist with a particular passion for French organ literature, she has performed works by Marcel Dupré, Maurice Duruflé, and Jehan Alain at Yonsei University’s Yun Ju-Yong Hall.
After relocating to California, Ms. Choi established herself as a respected accompanist and vocal coach, collaborating with artists from the San Francisco Opera. Her leadership of The Pacific Choir has brought forth numerous landmark performances, including commemorative concerts for the United Nations 70th Anniversary and Reformation 500 featuring Bach’s BWV 80, a special performance for the National Day of Korea at Herbst Theatre, and multiple benefit concerts supporting the American Cancer Society and UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital Oakland.
In 2024, Ms. Choi initiated a landmark artistic collaboration with the Vienna Boys' Choir, establishing a foundation for ongoing international partnership and cultural exchange. During the same European tour, The Pacific Choir performed at esteemed venues including St. Stephen's Cathedral, Vienna and Salzburg Cathedral.
Building on the success of the 2024 European tour, Ms. Choi will lead The Pacific Choir on its 2027 concert tour through Italy, Croatia, and Austria. The tour will include a joint summer music camp with the Vienna Boys’ Choir at Palais Augarten and a featured performance at the historic Ehrbar Saal in Vienna, continuing her mission to unite cultures through the transformative power of choral music.
